The new Swartland Community Sports Centre in Malmesbury was officially opened on 17th May 2019

Premier Helen Zille opened the centre in the presence of nearly 200 invited guests from the community, donors and supporters. The British High Commissioner, the Minister for Sport and Cultural Affairs and the Minister for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning were also  present.

Premier Helen Zille said “I am delighted to be part of this day. I have been associated with Hope Through Action for many years now and recognise the opportunities they bring to our young people. In these turbulent times the potential of the young people of our nation is the hope we have for the future. This facility, dedicated to giving them a safe place to develop and grow into the leaders of the future, is very exciting. I look forward to hearing many stories of lives being changed and potential fulfilled."

Philip Green, founder and Patron of Hope Through Action said “Today is a significant day for us. It has been our privilege to work with talented young people in this region for nearly twenty years and see them fulfil their potential. To play a small part in enabling them to become mature citizens and leaders is a role which we take very seriously.”

To the wider community Philip said “We all have a responsibility to be role models to young people in our behaviour, attitudes and values and to demonstrate through our actions that we believe in their ability, admire their enthusiasm and trust them to make the world a better place. As an organisation we are committed to holistic development of young people – intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I challenge the communities here in Malmesbury, Swartland and the wider Western Cape to join us on this journey.

Jeff Spinks, Managing Trustee in South Africa, said      "It has long been believed that sport is a powerful agent for social and personal change.  Therefore the opening of our third Centre in Malmesbury creates the opportunity to improve the lives of many underprivileged people in that community and, in time, build a stronger and better local society generally. We are delighted that the construction team of Fred Laker, from Lyners Consulting, Oostenwald Nothnagel from ONA and Power Construction have again worked with us to bring this to completion.

We are grateful to many people who share our vision and who have made this initiative possible. In particular, Rolf and Kumi Vogel from Switzerland
